I’ve always been intrigued by yoga. It’s not just how toned and athletic and healthy these yoga-practicing girls look, it’s also how calm and together they seem. So unlike me! Thus, when Addie was born, my cousin Camille even gave me a book on baby yoga. I tried to do some of the poses, but failed miserably. I was too busy lamenting how difficult it was to feed her and make her nap and cut her nails and still manage to breathe. But when Addie started hanging out with my mom, she began doing yoga moves and she even made some up on her own.
A few years and another baby later, Nica Hechanova, yoga teacher, my former intern at K-Zone, and the younger sister of my departed friend Noelle, wrote and illustrated Amazing Me, a yoga book for kids! And I showed it to my girls and they immediately began doing the poses.
Tammy, in particular loves them. She actually takes the book and tells me she wants to do yoga. Or she’ll just pull the yoga mat out and start on her own. Makes me want to enroll her (and myself) in a class. Something to think about for 2016.
I particularly love the fun rhymes and cute illustrations and the helpful guide for parents at the back — because if you’re like me and you haven’t the slightest about how to do a single yoga pose, you’ll welcome the guidance.
